UGC alignment

The UGC Promotion of Academic Integrity regulations (2018) require institutions to use software-based plagiarism detection for thesis submissions. Drillbit is among the recommended tools for Indian institutions and aligns with the four-band similarity classification (Level 0 ≤ 10% · Level 1 10–40% · Level 2 40–60% · Level 3 > 60%) used in those guidelines.

§ 04 · The standard

Why this report holds up — when your guide opens it.

01

Indian repository coverage

Drillbit checks against Shodhganga, INFLIBNET, IIT/NIT thesis repositories, and 600+ Indian institutional databases — sources international tools often miss. If you cited a 2017 M.Tech thesis from JNTU, we will find it.

02

Regional language support

Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati. Quoted regional-language passages are detected and either excluded (if cited) or flagged accurately — not ignored as gibberish.

03

No repository submission

Your document is compared against the index, never added to it. You retain the right to submit the same draft to your university's own Drillbit check without self-similarity inflation.

§ 05 · An honest comparison

Drillbit or Turnitin? Both have a job.

We sell both — there is no upsell motive here. Pick the tool your institution prescribes; if they accept either, the table below is a useful tiebreaker.

Rule of thumb. Indian thesis or state-university submission → Drillbit. Journal pre-submission to a Springer / Elsevier / Wiley title → Turnitin (or iThenticate). When in doubt, ask your guide which annexure they need; the answer determines the choice.
§ 06 · The process

Questions

FAQ

  • Yes, it can. Turnitin, iThenticate and Drillbit keep adding newly submitted student work, journal articles and newly indexed web pages to their databases. A report is a snapshot of that database at the moment of the check, so the same document checked again later can come back with a different score — even though the document itself has not changed. This is normal and is not an error in the report.
